Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as NGC 7257, is a spiral galaxy located 230 million light years away in the constellation of Aquarius at a declination of -4 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 1.6 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 105,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about 35 degrees from edge-on.

This galaxy has a faint barlense extending across the core.   The 2 arms have formed a pseudo-ring around the barlense.  The arms extend out counterclockwise for about one revolution.  Several straight arm segments are seen, likely VV rows.

I love this disk because it seems to be disturbed at first glance but it also is surprisingly symmetric, so I an not sure exactly what is happening here.
